The Mules

The rules of the rally stipulate that the vehicles that will be used need to either be a car of no more than 1000cc or motorbikes with a maximum engine capacity of 125cc. We have opted for the latter option and have chosen the mighty Honda CG125 as our steeds (erm.. Mules). These beasts will pump out a giddy 10.6 bhp from their single cylinder, pushrod engines. These bikes are however famous for their reliability which will definitely be tested on the journey, across all typed of terrain, on and off road.

The bikes, when new would have looked like this:
I'm sure, with our budget, that the bikes we get will be pretty knackered and need lots of work to prepare them for the rally.

After Europe our hardest terrain will be through sand, lots and lots of sand, particularly in Kazakhstan. Mongolia will also be tough with the country, the size of France, Spain and Germany combined, only having 1000 miles of rough tarmac. We need to quote Doctor Emmett Brown here when we say, 'Where we're going we don't need roads'.

A couple of modified cg125s we have seen have given us inspiration for kitting them out for the rougher sections.

Tyres, Handlebars and Mudguards are of interest.
